Day One

So technically my road trip started out back on June 9.  Close to my home town a music festival called Ever After was taking place and I even managed to snag some media passes from the University of Guelph.  Now not only was this festival special because I got media it was also the first festival where I din't go on my own.  The ability to experience a festival consistently with someone I have a connection with rather than fleeting moments with strangers was a welcome change of pace.  I din't have the stress of trying to make new friends and I didn't have to worry about meeting the wrong people, which has happened on more than one occasion.  However I knew that it was only going to get harder from that point on.  I'd be on my own for the rest of the trip and if I didn't want that to be the case the whole time I had better improve my social skills.  I'm sure anybody my age can relate to the social paradox that you need friends to make friends but without friends you'll always be that weird loner.  The cycle can be difficult to break especially when social interaction are daunting in the first place.  That problem would be for another time though.  That weekend was my time to enjoy some awesome music with my best friend and I couldn't have asked for a better way to start my roadtrip.

Now in regards to saving money on this leg of my trip I was still close to home so I knew people who I could crash with after, my festival pass was free since I was media (that good fortune also extended to my cousin as she was able to come as my +1), and instead of spending money on expensive festival food each day I hid protein bars in my backpack.  Being media meant I was never faced with a very rigorous search - not that they look that hard anyways.
